We all know Everton’s struggles this season – they have an injury list as long as Marouane Fellaini’s arm. But they’ve already qualified for the next stage of the Europa league, rendering their game with BATE (who are no mugs, getting two Champions League draws with Juventus last season) a dead rubber. Consequently Moyes has already announced he will be playing a youth/reserve side – and BATE should have more than enough to at least avoid defeat.

LAY Everton @ 1.85 (Betfair) – 2 points liability

There are Coca-Cola and Champions League games this midweek, and here are our best selections from them…

Bournemouth v Dagenham and Redbridge

We opposed Bournemouth against Torquay last time out, only for them to get a breakaway clincher with Torquay dominating. Dagenham have been going great guns this season and their recent defeat to Rochdale seems to have inflated their price somewhat – 11/4 seems a little big.

Dagenham @ 11/4 (widely available) – 2 points

Fiorentina v Lyon

A draw suits both of these teams, and in that situation usually represents good value. This is no exception.

Fiorentina v Lyon Draw @ 23/20 (Totesport) – 2 points

Debrecen v Liverpool

In one sense the pressure is off Liverpool here, as they are reliant on a favourable result in the Fiorentina game. However, the number of goals they score in this game directly impacts how many they need in their next game to ensure qualification should it go their way. They will undoubtedly go for it, and if they do, there is a strong possibility they could destroy Debrecen. The prices reflect that unfortunately, the best bet is arguably:

Liverpool -1.5 @ 1.8 (Betfair) – 2 points

Arsenal v Standard Liege

Arsenal’s home record is outstanding, scoring 33 goals in 10 matches so far this season while conceding only seven. Liege are poor away from home, and have only scored three in their last five. This is likely to be a goalfest; we’ll take the same bet as above.

Arsenal – 1.5 @ 1.83 (Betfair) – 2 points

Fulham take a decent, but potentially vulnerable, 3-1 lead to Russia for the return leg of their Europa Cup playoff. The first leg victory was tainted by Andy Johnson’s injury and the away side giving themselves a chance with a fine volleyed goal.

Hodgson admitted before that game he’d rest players in Russia if Fulham were comfortable – and with their very small squad he could just do that, despite that away goal. Another factor is the Russian’s artificial pitch; away sides always struggle when faced with a bouncy, plasticy surface, and the Londoners could get a shock.

Fulham are slight favourites for the tie – but considering their cushion, the possibility they may rest players, the pitch, the Russian determination to progress in European competition, and Fulham’s reputation as a poor travelling side, laying the Cottagers is the way to go. There is some depth on Betfair laying them at up to 2.8, and that should be taken – although more should appear before kick off.

LAY Fulham @ 2.76 (Betfair) – 2 point liability

It was a poor weekend for Wakuba as the end of season unpredictablity took its toll. Wolves, traditional bottlers, secured a routine victory and promotion, while Derby continued to be off the boil.

As the climax draws nearer we will focus on teams that have something to play for, those chasing the playoffs or automatic promotion, those that have extra motivation over mid table sides. Although that was the reason for choosing Middlesbrough!

There are games tonight and midweek so check back for our selections; we hope to get back to winning ways.

Unfortunately Accrington couldn’t quite sneak all three points against Rotherham, and Barnet suffered a surprise defeat to Darlington, making us slightly down for the weekend.

It’s been an average month for Wakuba, some good winners but unprofitable overall; but we are a long term strategy, and have so far brought back approximately 20% to our subscribers, including one month in which we returned over 40%.

We recommend a minimum 6 month subscription to release the potential of our strategy – sign up now to benefit from our extensive research and analysis.

But Cheltenham’s draw, coupled with Millwall’s stirring comeback (coming back from 2-0 down to win 3-2) brought us level for the weekend after Crewe’s surprisingly abject performance against Leeds and Gillingham’s collapse against Grimsby.

Everton are finally getting the credit they deserve for their excellent form this season; they have now lost only once in their last eighteen games, and that a narrow defeat at Old Trafford. They visit Portsmouth who have lost over half their home games and have only one win in their last nine matches. Portsmouth do have some quality so Everton to win outright is risky; but the Blue half of Merseyside should avoid defeat and you can back that (double chance Everton and Draw) at around 2/5.

Meanwhile a six point relegation clash sees Stoke host Boro. The only reason Stoke are not struggling more is their excellent home form; they are a different side at the Brittania with a record only bettered by the top sides. Boro are a young team and they are struggling from a lack of confidence – a frail side like that will not want to visit the Potteries. Stoke should avoid defeat, and you can back that (double chance Stoke and Draw) at around 4/11.

Double these two together and your price is 1.9 (Stan James, 888 Sport) – 2 points

EDIT – These can be combined through the Betfair multiples module to give 2.04 which, minus their commission, is very slightly better)
