Midweek Tips

Leeds v Accrington

It’s debatable whether Leeds’ heart is really in this competition – having only beaten Darlington and Grimsby so far, we just don’t know. If it’s not, then Accrington are capable of taking advantage. They are 5/1 to qualify which looks a decent price – and there is also some outstanding value in the correct score market, which we’ll also take a tiny interest in.

Accrington to qualify v Leeds @ 5/1 (Stan James) – 1 point

Accrington 3-0 @ 425/1 (Paddy Power) – 0.125 points

Accrington 2-0 @ 80-1 (Paddy Power) – 0.125 points

Accrington 1-0 @ 22-1 (Paddy Power) – 0.25 points

Birmingham v Blackburn

Both of these sides have struggled for goals recently so it’s no surprise to see odds on quotes abut U2.5. However there is some value in the 8/1 about a 0-0 – that result would occur in more than one in eight games between these two sides on current form.

0-0 @ 8/1 (Widely available) – 1 point

Man Utd v Wolves

Of course United are favourites. But they are struggling for goals, and suffered at the hands of Villa last time out. Wolves got a great 1-0 win against Spurs – and both those things will encourage McCarthy’s men that they can hold out at Old Trafford. They probably won’t – but at 18/1 the 0-0 has some appeal.

0-0 @ 18/1 (Widely Available) – 0.5 points

Weekend Selections

by Wakuba on Nov.27, 2009, under News

FA Cup, Premier League and Championship this weekend – and we have delved into all of them…

Northwich Victoria v Lincoln

Northwich will be bang up for this game and that, allied with Lincoln’s poor form and Chris Sutton’s travails, and their long injury list, and the fact this game is televised – stack up to create some value on the home side.

Northwich @ 9/4 (Betfred) – 2 points

Gillingham v Burton

Gillingham look the strongest bet of the round, playing a Burton side who are struggling, and look particularly vulnerable to Gillingham’s pacey forward line. Even at 4/6 there is value.

Gillingham @ 4/6 (Widely Available) – 2 points

Notts Forest v Doncaster

Forest are a difficult team to break down and haven’t gone over 2.5 goals in their last five matches. Doncaster will struggle to penetrate and everything points to this being low scoring.

Under 2.5 goals @ 4/6 (Widely Available) – 2 points

Newcastle v Swansea

Swansea have kept 8 clean sheets in their last 11 games, and will go to St James’ attempting to add to that tally. Newcastle have ground out their results rather than playing teams off the park and this looks like being a tight game.

Under 2.5 goals @ 4/5 (Paddy Power, SkyBet) – 2 points

West Ham v Burnley

This game screams ‘goals’. Two sides with porous defences who aren’t afraid to attack suggests an open game with few inhibitions and no clean sheets.

Over 2.5 goals @ 4/5 (Widely Available) – 2 points

We’re on a mini-run at the moment, with our lay of Notts County at the weekend following two midweek winners.

It’s about time we turned things round after the consistent downward trend prompted by a (largely disastrous) close season flirtation with cricket.

Liverpool v Aston Villa

by Wakuba on Aug.24, 2009, under News

Liverpool will be desperate for three points having already lost once this season, and with Torres and Gerrard both fit there is a good chance they will get them. Villa looked uncertain and vulnerable against Wigan on the first day of the season (made to look even more so by Wigan’s subsequent defeats) and it’s unlikely they will be able to repel Liverpool at Anfield – particularly considering Liverpool’s record against them (they have not lost in ten and beat them 5-0 last time out). Villa are reasonably potent away from home though – there could be goals in this one.

Liverpool v Aston Villa – Over 2.5 goals @ 10/11 (Ladbrokes) – 2 points

Wednesday Treble

by Wakuba on Aug.19, 2009, under News

There are four interesting fixtures in the Premier League tonight – and we’re picking results from three of them. The one we’re ignoring is Liverpool Stoke, as 1/4 is just too short.

Hull v Spurs

Spurs started excellently and will be keen to maintain that form. Hull were unlucky against Chelsea, but it was a poor performance from the Londoners. Spurs are a cut above quality wise and playing well, and should get something from the game.

Burnley v Man Utd

United are 1/3 in this one, which although clearly a short price is still decent for them. They are always strong against the weaker sides, especially those that try and play football against them. Burnley could struggle.

Birmingham v Portsmouth

Birmingham looked solid against United first up, and could have nicked a draw on another day. Portsmouth are in disarray at the moment, and their deflated players will struggle to get anything from St Andrews.

The treble on these three is 5.21/1 with Paddy Power, and worth a small interest.

Spurs, Man Utd, Birmingham treble @ 5.21/1 (Paddy Power) – 1 point

Wakuba Midweek Selections

by Wakuba on Aug.18, 2009, under News

Password protection removed 19/08 @ 11.42

There are Champions League, Premier League, and Football League fixtures this week. We’ve already tipped Wigan to beat Wolves, and the price has fallen to 8/11… here are our other selections, a collection of lays.

Ipswich v Crystal Palace

Ipswich have had a stuttering start, with one point from their first two matches. They have not played well either, and there are already murmurings of discontent at Roy Keane’s managerial style. Crystal Palace suffered at the hands of the referee with their ‘ghost goal’ against Bristol City, and you can be sure that they, and Neil Warnock, will be fired up and come out fighting. At a shade over evens, Ipswich are too short.

LAY Ipswich @ 2.1 (Betfair) – 2 points

Colchester v Gillingham

Colchester have started well, with two wins from two including the 7-1 destruction of Norwich – although sandwiched between them was a defeat to Leyton Orient. However, manager Paul Lambert has since left to take over at Norwich, leaving an air of uncertainty around the club. They take on Gillingham, who were unlucky to lose a strong Tranmere side after two victories (including one over Championship Plymouth) to start the season. This should be a fairly close game – which makes the shade over evens on Colchester seem short. It’s another lay…

LAY Colchester @ 2.12 (Betfair) – 2 points

Walsall v Leeds

Leeds are never as strong away as they are at home, and Walsall have started the season well, managing to scramble a point with 10 men last time out. At even money, without a strong run of form behind them, Leeds are worth opposing tonight.

LAY Leeds @ 2.04 (Betfair) – 2 points

Tuesday Night Premier League – One for Free

by Wakuba on Aug.17, 2009, under News

Sunderland take on Chelsea and Wigan take on Wolves on Tuesday – and it’s in the latter game we see a great opportunity.

Considering their opening day performance Wigan are worth a look anyway, but what makes them stand out all the more are the injury problems their visitors are suffering. They could be missing an entire team (including loans etc) -  Murray, Foley, Shackell, Berra, Ward, Kightly, Halford, Zubar, Doyle, Ebanks-Blake, and Iwelumo. With all of those players out Wolves’ squad is average Championship at best, and Wigan have to be strong favourites, at home, to beat a team of that quality. They are 4/5 with Totesport and Ladbrokes, which is excellent value.

Wigan @ 4/5 (Totesport/Ladbrokes) – 2 points

Weekend Results

by Wakuba on Aug.17, 2009, under News

Three of our five selections won this weekend – Stoke comfortably beat Burnley (which was welcomed by the freeloaders who read us but don’t pay a subscription!) plus our lay of Shrewsbury and selection of over 2.5 goals in the Spurs-Liverpool game altogether brought us a small profit.

There are a raft of midweek games on Tuesday and Wednesday, and we will bring our selections for them in plenty of time.

Premier League – Opening Day – One for Free

by Wakuba on Aug.13, 2009, under News

The mouth watering prospect of a new Premier League season becomes a reality at the weekend, with a full complement of fixtures over the two days. It’s early days and will take a few games for teams to show their true colours – but scouring through the fixtures there’s one we reckon is worth following.

Stoke v Burnley

Stoke’s home record was fearsome last season, bettered only by the Big Four. The Brittannia is an intimidating venue for visiting teams – and Burnley will experience a baptism of fire. It’s one of the toughest opening fixtures they could ask for, and Stoke are rightly favourites. However, they are still slightly odds against – which represents cracking value against a promoted team, and one with a porous defence to boot.

Stoke @ 2.02 (Betfair) – 1 point
